Holistic Physiotherapy

Holistic Physiotherapy

Having specialised in helping individuals improve their movement & functional abilities, manage pain and recover from injuries, physiotherapists are now recognised to be highly beneficial in the rehabilitation process for Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and other energy-limiting illnesses.

With 10 years experience in the field, combined with my own personal experience recovering from Long Covid / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I understand the nuances and complexities of chronic illness recovery and have deep empathy and respect for all those on this path with a strong desire to help.

As chronic illness can be so variable from person to person, it is important that each client is cared for, assessed and managed based on their unique individual needs and presentation. I understand it is not a one-size-fits-all and I offer an individualised holistic approach, informed by current scientific evidence.

What is holistic physiotherapy? It’s integrative care addressing the whole picture of the individual, including physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being to optimise recovery. It recognises the importance of the mind-body connection and lifestyle of the individual, rather than just treating physical symptoms and injuries.

Some things my physiotherapy sessions can help with include:

  • Managing fatigue, and energy levels

  • Improving breathing, and shortness of breath

  • Pain & symptom management

  • Safe movement and return to exercise advice

  • Safe return to work advice

  • Injury management

  • Building functional capacity and sleep

  • Collaborating with your health-care team

  • Rehabilitation and care taking into consideration energy limitations, PEM and/or PESE

What does a session look like?

All sessions are virtual / online.

They may include:

  • Verbal and visual assessment via video call

  • Education regarding the autonomic nervous system & the brain, pain education, the stress response, the mind-body connection, energy management, pacing & expanding techniques, supportive daily habits, sleep hygiene, nourishing rest, safe movement, injury management, return to work and exercise advice.

  • Management such as body awareness, somatic techniques, breathing exercises, mindfulness and meditation, movement/exercise prescription, pacing & expanding techniques, pain & injury management, self-treatment techniques, function support strategies, mindset support, lifestyle advice, collaborating with your healthcare team

  • All sessions and recovery plans will be considered for every individual taking into account their current energy envelope, PEM, nervous system sensitivity, health history & functional status.

  • Please note: you will NOT be receiving hands-on treatment due to the nature of this session being virtual, however appropriate referrals can be made if required.

  • All physiotherapy sessions may include an element of holistic coaching included, such that:

    • A 60 minute physiotherapy session includes 45 minute physiotherapy consult + 15 minute coaching consult (intertwined).

    • A 30 minute physiotherapy session includes 20 minute physiotherapy consult + 10 minute coaching consult (intertwined).

    • Please refer to the ‘Coaching’ page to learn more about what may be included as part of the coaching service.

  • As a primary care practitioner, you do not need a referral from your doctor to see me.

However, I do recommend you see your doctor as a first point of call to get any relevant checks and tests completed before commencing physiotherapy care.

As an allied health professional I am unable to formerly diagnose most chronic illnesses.

  • You can book a complimentary discovery call if you would like to meet with me first to discuss your condition and find out more about my services.

Alternatively (and the next step) will be to book your initial physiotherapy consultation. This can be done online, or during your discovery call. You can also book via sending an email to candy@flowintolife.com.au

Standard care is a 60 minute initial assessment followed by 30 minutes review consultations. However we can tailor this to your energy capacity, needs and goals.

  • We will take some time together so that I can learn about you, your health journey, your concerns, your goals and your dreams.

I will ask you questions so that we can get a clear idea of your current problems and work out solutions together. The appointment may include some physical tests if appropriate for you.

We will then discuss our findings and your individualised recovery plan.

Keeping within your energy capacity is our priority in every session. For some we may need to extend our initial consult over a number of sessions.

  • I kindly ask for 24 hours notice on any appointment cancellation. This will enable me to help others in need during your appointment time slot.

I also understand that chronic illness can be unpredictable sometimes, so if you have a last minute change in energy/symptoms/function due to your chronic illness and you feel cancelling your appointment will serve your recovery best, I will always be compassionate and understanding and will aim to assist you in any way I can. Please reach out as soon as you can and we can figure out what is best for you.

  • I accept Enhanced Primary Care plans through Medicare.

To process this I will need your referral and Medicare details and submit this Medicare Online.
